The Town Centre BID
A way for Bournemouth town centre businesses to invest together in their future, improving the town centre as a place to visit, shop, spend time and do business, and promoting the town centre to increase footfall. About the Town Centre BID
The Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) is a way for all Town Centre businesses to invest together in improvements and extra services in this area, making it a better place to visit and shop, and a better place to do business.
In more than 100 towns across the UK businesses have chosen to invest in BIDs and benefit from the improvements they bring. They are independent, efficient business-led organisations. They are tried and tested. They work.
The map below shows the study area for Bournemouth’s Town Centre BID. All businesses within the area are included within the Town Centre BID, except those with a Rateable Value under £9500, and commercial offices.
These eligible businesses will be consulted on their priorities for improvement. The BID will then draw up a detailed business plan based upon these priorities. They will then be eligible to vote in a formal ballot over whether the BID is established. If the majority vote yes then all will help to fund the projects through a levy based upon the rateable value of each business.
Most BIDs charge between 1-2% of the rateable value of each businesses, yet deliver in-kind benefits that far outweighs this small charge. Put together the small levy paid by each business builds into a powerful, sustainable fund which can be used to make significant improvements.

Read why a broad range of Bournemouth businesses and business organisations believe you should support the BID:
"I agreed to become Chairman of the Town Centre BID’s Steering Group because I have seen first hand how BIDs can make a positive difference to a town. In Winchester, Worthing and Bedford, where Beales has stores, BIDs have given businesses a say in how the town centre is run, and resulted in visible, tangible improvements. This is an important opportunity to bring the benefits a BID can deliver, home to our town."
Tony Brown
“Business Improvement Districts are a democratic, fair and powerful way for businesses – and a whole town – to grow stronger. The Daily Echo supports the Bournemouth Town Centre BID and Coastal Districts BID and urges businesses to get involved..." Neal Butterworth
“With many stores around the UK in BID areas, House of Fraser is very aware of the benefits BIDs can deliver to improve our trading environment and bring extra footfall to the town centre. We very much look forward to a successful outcome here in Bournemouth.” Gary Rattray
“M&S are committed supporters of the BID principle and are now active in over 40 locations across the UK. The Bournemouth BID is a really exciting prospect and we are keen to work with everyone involved to make it a great success and deliver real benefits to our town centre.” Louisa Krzyzosiak
“With a number of Subway outlets around the town centre, my business depends upon a bright and attractive town that brings people in. The BID can achieve this which is why I’m supporting it.” Martin Graves
‘The local Branch of the FSB is keen to support the current BIDs being developed by local businesses, and encourages its members to become involved." Julie Leigh
"Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce has been in the forefront supporting Bournemouth’s BID projects. We believe that these can have a major, positive impact on businesses across the town. I would urge all eligible businesses to get involved in the consultations and to vote “yes” when the ballot papers are sent out.” Nigel Hedges
