Steele Raymond Construction

A Bournemouth law firm has launched a specialist legal team to tackle the often complex challenges and issues facing the construction industry.

The construction law team at Bournemouth solicitors Steele Raymond aims to help and advise developers, contractors and sub-contractors, professional consultants and the finance sector on contentious and non-contentious issues of procurement, construction contracts, commercial agreements and development agreements.

Head of the Construction Law team and Managing Partner Peter Rolph said: “Research carried out by Arcadis indicates that the average construction dispute in the UK in 2014 was £17.2m. As confidence in the construction industry grows we are seeing much larger projects being developed with much larger sums of money being at stake. Couple that with the ever increasing complexity of these projects can result in a situation where there could easily give rise to a dispute.”

The team comprises of a wealth of contentious and non-contentious experience. Graeme Roberts, a consultant with over 25 years’ non-contentious construction law experience and specialises in drafting and negotiating all documentation involved in construction projects. Peter Rolph has over 30 years’ experience in a full range of contentious construction disputes in adjudication, arbitration and litigation. Peter has also been a n accredited commercial mediator for over 15 years.

The construction team also benefit from the national experience of Senior Associate Simone Ritchie who specialises in resolving property disputes. Nikki Gates, works with developers, builders and contractors in the recovery of construction contract debts.

Peter said: “Early commercial resolution when disputes arise is key. In many cases disputes could have been avoided. The more care that is taken at the outset in drafting contracts the clearer the parties are as to their rights and remedies; the more disputes can be avoided. Avoiding disputes before they arise allows everyone to focus on running and growing the business.”
