It is that time of the year when students have started at Bournemouth & Poole College and we are looking for placements to offer work experience.
Do you have an office or a shop with a couple of full time staff where a young adult could be supervised? If so, could you offer an opportunity for a full time student to gain some valuable work experience? The role can be varied from administration, IT, accounts, human resources, marketing, finance, operations or Retail.
We have reduce the paperwork and stress around work placements. If you have not had a Health & Safety check with the College in the last two years then you only need to complete a checklist, which I can email to you. The College has now employed six full time work placements officers to manage the process. I am responsible for courses in Business, Digital and Leadership.
IT Placements dates:
26th Nov – 14th Dec
14th Jan – 25th Jan
13th Nov – 30th Nov
11th Mar – 29th Mar
14th Jan – 25th Jan
28th Jan – 8th Feb
11th Feb – 22nd Feb
25th Mar – 5th Apr
25th Feb – 8th Mar
This can be for 1 or 2 students, or even more if you can supervise them. It can be for the one period or more. The students will be different for each period. Students will be approximately 16 – 18 years old.
If you are interested in taking a student (or two) then please drop me an email or phone call. Please feel free to forward to colleagues who can assist.

Bournemouth & Poole College are playing a vital role in this year’s newly created Bournemouth and Poole Tourism Awards (BAPTAs). Not only are they sponsoring BAPTAs Best Breakfast Award category, they also hosted the VIP Launch Event at their Poole site in September and will be hosting the semi-finals event at their Bournemouth site in the New Year. Students at the college are engaging with the awards and will be hosting guests, providing entertainment, assisting with the catering, producing videos and encouraging entries and nominations too.
Bournemouth & Poole College is the largest provider of Further Education (FE), Apprenticeships and professional training in the area. Their core focus is on developing the work skills of their students, so that when they leave they are ready to start or to progress within their chosen career. They are home to around 11,000 students from across the region, the UK and internationally, including 2000 apprentices.
Michael Johnson, Vice Principal, Finance and Commercial Development said “Bournemouth & Poole College are excited to be sponsoring the Best Breakfast Award. Just as a healthy, hearty breakfast is the perfect start to the day, we believe obtaining appropriate skills and training is the perfect start to any career. Continuing to develop and update these skills through further training and higher-level qualifications will help ensure a long and successful career and we can offer a great training partnership through professional qualifications and Apprenticeships.”
Jackie Phillipson from ROUTEpr and the BAPTAs, “We are absolutely thrilled at the energy, enthusiasm and support Bournemouth & Poole College have provided us since the start. They are 100% behind the awards and this is what makes the awards what they are. The team at the BAPTAs are excited for what’s to come and appreciate all that the staff and students at the college are contributing to the awards.”
The BAPTAs Best Breakfast Award is open to all businesses in the BH postcode area who supply a breakfast offering, and have been trading for over 18 months.

Changes are on the way to Apprenticeships and the way they are funded. That’s why you’re invited to find out more at an event run by The Bournemouth & Poole College.
You might have already heard about the launch of the Apprenticeship Levy next year, and for businesses with wage bills over £3m it will mean paying 0.5% of their payroll into the Levy. But there’s more to the changes than simply this, as the way Apprenticeships are delivered is changing too.
But how are you affected? As the area’s largest Apprenticeships provider,
The Bournemouth & Poole College is perfectly placed to ensure you make the most of the opportunities and the new funding regime.
That’s why we want to welcome you to an event at The College on 8th November
at 4.00pm when we will help you to get to grips with the changes and what it means for you.
Whatever the size of your business, irrespective of the sector you work in, this is your opportunity to find out everything you need to know.
